am getting my 6th round of 12 of oxaliplatin, avastin cocktail. finally this past treatment we have diarrhea under control…i cannot emphasize what that means to me. LIFE. OUTSIDE the bathroom! am taking enough meds to stop up a large elephant tho i think.theres the pain pills, (2)hydrocodone/acetaminiphine 10/325 that causes constipation (usually) not in me….also, Lomotil 2.5 mg and Bentyl 20 mg. every 5 hours,,,,six was too long. i want to list that in case anyone else is experiencing the wrenching, butt vomiting that i get with chemo. also i take neulasta and sometimes get the worst headache, i have fiurocet for that. it works great.
so basically, that and i did have a reiki massage 2 days afer treatment, even still had my avastin pump on! so that could have contributed to the good response, as well as CHRISTMAS and family. its just been a great 2 weeks. i want to believe the meds did help because it would be hard to duplicate the others as well….ha.
here i am laughing at my own jokes o well. feels good.
hope everyone is feeling their best possible and get to do SOMETHING enjoyable today./....this week.
may you be showered with blessings, annette
Oh dear friend,
I remember those days well. They gave me a shot of something in the hip every time I went in for chemo. to help with the “butt vomit”. I remember going 15 – 20 times a day. Horrid! Remember to stay on the BRAT diet when it really flares up and NO caffiene, high fiber, choc. tomatoe or sugars once you start to add foods back and you will be a much happier camper. I am so sorry you are going through this added bonus and will continue to pray that you find relief.
If you have any questions feel free to ask…I went through it twice and now have no colon so I know the ropes.
Be blessed today!
Larissa
good luck on treatments! I have been going through treatment myself for the past year and I am down to my final 4…I was taken off the oxipliatin this last round due to concerns of neuropathy. like you I had the same problems with getting the diahrrea under control.
Melinda
Oh…the explosive diareah…I must say that I don’t miss that. Nothing seemed to work for me so my answer was to not eat much…that really wasn’t very smart either. I’m glad to hear that you had a good holiday and have gotten things under control. What’s with this cold weather? It’s driving us crazy here in Austin…just not mentally able to deal with the cold.
Hope your 6th round went easy today,,,you are now officially half way through and on the downhill slope racing towards the finish line! Keep going girl!
Hugs to you
Teresa
Dear Annette;
I have nothing to add in the way of tips, but just to keep up your wonderful attitude, it makes for an easier journey, and by the time it’s over, hopefully you will have forgotten all the side effects of chemo, although I doubt it. How is it that poison to kill the cancer, almost kills us in the way of it. God help us all, that they come up with some better ways of ridding this bloody disease. In the meantime, keep fighting as it won’t be long before you are back on a regular diet. Good luck and thanks for updating us.

some of you may have heard or tried this, but i havent till this week. it has nearly diminished my nausea from chemo! (taking oxaliplatin and 5FU with Avastin) anyway, it is Haldol (i know,,,an anti-psychotic drug), ativan, and benedryl. Called HAB. the mixture works, dont know how but i am breezing thru this day, tired of course, but not like the near vomiting all day long i had a couple of weeks ago.
i was worried it may keep me totally knocked out also, and i have napped quite a bit, but also was able to shower, do a little on the computer and such…so,,thats a lot more than i expected.
just wanted to pass along if anyone needed some help with that.
best fo everyone…
hi, annette. so glad you have found some relief from the nausea and have a little more energy. i will pray that this continues for you. hope you enjoy your weekend…. debby
Hey Girl,
So glad you’ve found the magic elixir for your upchucking. What ever does the trick for you. Now to work on the cancer. Hope the treatment does its job and you continue to feel better.
Hugs!
Teresa
Dear Annette; How wonderful of you to share that pointer. I’m sure there are a lot of people, going through chemo who would love to know that bit of important information. I have not had chemo, but I know where to look if I need to quote the name of the drug. May not be the same in Canada, but anything to help a fellow cancer patient seems perfectly fine to me. I am happy to hear that your toleration of the chemo is much better. That speaks volumes and makes it much better for you. Thanks for the update. Here’s praying that the treatments does its’ job.
i hope that by posting this information it could help someone else out. thats what we are all here for after all, right i am just so very thankful to have found something and hope it can help many others out too.
keep on keepin on! much love and prayers back at you all.
